The Girl With the White Dress

Then came The Girl Who Played with Fire
And lastly it was The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest
Now see how it all began, in the sensational prequel…
The Girl with the White Dress
When the producers of movies for Stieg Larsson’s international best selling trilogy came looking for the cover to the prequel already in production, I was all too happy to oblige.

All right, the producers didn’t come knocking and the movie isn’t being made, but with the propensity of Hollywood to make sequels, trilogies, prequels and more, it’s not too much of a stretch of the imagination to think that this movie might very well be in the cards. And what better way to start the prequel to the trilogy at the very beginning, before Lisbeth Salander had a dragon tattoo, played with fire, or even kicked a hornet’s nest, when she was simply the girl with the white dress?

The pictures were taken in the meadow behind our home. I waited until the later hours of the day so the sun would create some rim lighting, though by the end of the shoot, the lighting is more back lighting. For fill light, I used a speedlight fitted with a Gary Fong diffuser. I also used a polarizing filter to add saturation to the green of the bulrush and when present, increase the contrast in the clouds.

The model was very professional and found ways to amuse herself during long stretches while waiting for the sun to reappear from behind the clouds.

  1. These photos are truly wonderful, Steve. You have captured the sweet innocence of a precious little girl who is near and dear to my heart. The white dress underscores her purity, while the setting provides a backdrop to showcase a fleeting moment in her life as the sun begins to fade.

Thanks for your comments and very poetic comments at that! She definitely has her moments of complete innocence and then moments of anything but…I’m glad it was that innocence that came across in the pictures
