Voice of an Angel

The singer at a recent wedding in the historic town of Bath, Ontario, was a young girl by the name of Phyllis. She sang several cover songs throughout the ceremony, including a beautiful rendition of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

Some say that she has the voice of an angel. Now I don’t know about that, I’ve never actually heard an angel sing, but I will say that she has a sweet, mellifluous voice.

Phyllis doesn’t just sing, she’s also quite talented with the guitar. She’s a fast study too, learning new cover songs quickly and “owning them” by adding her own unique touch to a wide variety of songs from different eras and genres. In addition to performing cover songs, Phyllis writes and performs her own songs. You might have even heard her sing and play her guitar if you’ve been in downtown Kingston on a Sunday, as she’s often there busking on the streets for an hour or two treating passers by to her musical gifts. She’s also got quite a loyal following with some of the Seniors in Bath, for whom she performs whenever they have a gathering.

It’s easy to forget, when looking at Phyllis and when hearing her sing, that she’s barely a teenager. But that’s exactly what she is, a young girl with her whole life ahead of her. Is a future singing career in the cards? Not if you ask Phyllis, but you never know who might stumble upon her talent when walking around Kingston on a sunny, Sunday afternoon or maybe at a dinner party where she is known to entertain on occasion.

Here’s a couple of pictures of Phyllis doing what she does best.
