The Nikon D800 is a beautiful camera creating stunning images. But if you shoot in RAW as I do, you will find that the images are not as sharp as they could be. Well I’ve experimented quite a bit with different sharpening settings in Lightroom and thought I’d share two of the ones that work the best for me, and of course they are absolutely free.

You can see examples of the effect of the sharpening presets below. I find that when shooting portraits, the eyes need to be especially sharp. It is important to note, that this preset does not sharpen things if they are out of focus, the only solution there is to scale the image. Below you can see 100% crops of a baby’s eyes before applying the presets and after.

Thanks for your comments David, and I’m glad you found this helpful. As with all presets, depending on your picture, there is tweaking that needs to be completed. But I find that these presets are a good starting point. Enjoy the D800 and the resulting tack sharp pictures! Cheers.
