Ice Storm 2013-The Destruction

In the first of a three part pictorial on the ice storm of 2013 that hit Ontario, we take a look at some of the destructive effects of the nearly 30mm of freezing rain that fell over the course of twenty four hours.

Over five hundred thousand went without power. Throughout the night, the eerie sounds of cracking and crashing could be heard as branches and entire trees fell, the strain of the weight of the ice too much to bear. Some neighborhoods will look very different in the spring as every tree along some streets have fallen.

Here are a couple of pictures of streets around our home including a video that we took as we drove around the neighborhood in Markham.
