In 1990, lava erupted by Kilauea Volcano destroyed homes and left behind the erie scene of bare covered lava rock on the southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. The lava rock crucnches under foot akin to a potato chip. In the background is the plume of smoke from the lava flow entering the ocean.
