Portrait Photo Sessions

Since 2014, Steve has reduced the number of client projects he takes on in an effort to focus more on other facets of photography, his family, and his teaching. It’s a delicate balance to say the least.  With that said, Steve still takes on client work as much as he can manage.

The information below includes more details about the photo sessions and pricing packages.

Here are some sample portraits. You can view more in the Portrait Section of the Portfolio.

Portraits

Markham Professional Newborn, Family Portrait Photographer

The À La Carte pricing package is what sets us apart from other studios and keeps you in control of the process every step of the way.

Soon after the photo session you are sent a link to a proofing gallery, where you select which images you would like edited for download, on a CD, and/or printed.

You are billed for the time in the studio (if on-location, a location fee will be applied) and the images you select for download, on CD, and/or printed.  We don’t charge you a flat rate.  We don’t give you pictures you don’t need.  You decide what you want and we take it from there.   It’s that simple.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to your session, we figure out exactly what you want in your picture. If it’s not an event, what looks/mood are we trying to achieve? We make sure that we match your expectations with the backgrounds and surroundings be it in studio or on location.

During Your Session
During the session we make you as comfortable as possible. We know that when you feel comfortable you look your best and that’s our goal. We’re not into counting exposures–we take pictures until we are certain we have all the great shots you were expecting.

After Your Session
Soon after the session, the proofs from the shoot are uploaded onto a secure gallery on our website. You will get a username and password that allows you to view your proofs. You select the pictures that you like best and click the submit button. Your selected proofs are then processed (touched up, cropped, etc.) and the finished product is either printed or reposted in the same gallery for you to download.

We are so confident that you will love the pictures we are willing to guarantee it! We rely on your referrals and if you’re not happy, we’re not happy.
If after viewing the images of the photo session on the website you are not completely satisfied with the final result, we will either redo the photo session or you don’t pay. No strings attached.

The time is billed at $60/hr (at quarters of an hour, except for the first half hour). The prices for the images vary. The price for each jpg digital image is $12.50/image. Reprints range in price from $10 for an 8×10 to $22 for a 16×20 print. We also offer prints on Canvas, Metal, or Acrylic if desired.

Here are a couple of scenarios.

Scenario 1

We spend 30 minutes taking pictures and you select two images for download and one for an 8×10 print.

Price: $30 (time) + $35 (images) = $65

Scenario 2

We spend an hour taking pictures and you select 10 images for download.

Price: $60 (time) + $125 (images) = $185

The studio is located in a converted room on the main floor of our home near Main Street in Markham, Ontario. Here we have the professional strobes (studio lights), backdrops, and other props.

The modeling and corporate head shot packages involve a lot more editing and all the professional touches you would expect to get from a high end professional photographer.

Newborn Photo Session Frequently Asked Questions

Ideally, newborn sessions are booked before you give birth. While we can capture great portraits of newborns at any time, to capture their delicate features the ideal time would be 5-10 days after birth. It is during this time that babies are still sleepy and easy to pose. After this time, babies spend more time awake and are not comfortable in womb like poses.

The main thing you need to remember to bring is your baby. A soother or another pacifier is a great tool to have on hand to soothe an upset babe. If you bottle feed, it’s good to have some extra food on hand just in case. We have everything else that we need to capture some great portraits. Having said that, if you have an outfit or another prop of sentimental value which you might want included in the pictures, you are encouraged to bring it along.

What you wear depends on what you want the end product to be, having said that it really doesn’t matter too much. Obviously, it looks good if you and your partner are somewhat coordinated. Solid, neutral colours are best as they are less distracting. Some parents wear black which really makes your baby stand out, especially when using a black background (this is an awesome look for black and white pictures). Others wear white…kind of goes with the innocence of the baby. But in the end, it’s whatever you are comfortable wearing and really, your baby will be the focal point and the pictures will be special because of that, regardless of your choice in wardrobe.

Any time spent soothing a crying baby to sleep, is time not spent taking pictures. In order to make the session go as smoothly as possible follow the tips below as closely as possible:

  • if you (mother) are nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy that might upset your newborn’s tummy for 24 hours prior to the photo session
  • try to keep your newborn awake for one to two hours prior to the session to ensure your newborn is sleepy for the session
  • feed your newborn immediately before leaving for our studio
  • dress your baby in loose clothes, like a simple sleeper. Avoid any clothing that needs to be pulled over a baby’s head.

The photos are taken in my home studio. Here I have all the lights and props that we need to take all the beautiful pictures you seek.

This depends on what you want as the end product. But usually, we recommend counting on two hours for the session. Anything less than that is a bonus.

You decide what you want and we take it from there. It’s that simple. The prices for the images vary. The price for each jpg digital image is $12.50/image. Reprints range in price from $10 for an 8×10 to $20 for a 16×20 print. We also offer prints on Canvas, Metal, or Acrylic if desired.

Here are a couple of scenarios.

Scenario 1

We spend 45 minutes in the photo studio and you select six images for download and one for an 8×10 print.

Price: $45 (time) + $85 (images) = $130

Scenario 2

We spend two hours in the studio and you select 17 images for download.

Price: $120 (time) + $200 (images) = $320

You don’t need to pay the day of the session. Soon after the photo session, you’ll be sent a link to an online gallery on our website where you can browse through all the unedited pictures in the comfort of your own home. You then pick the ones you want printed, for download, or on CD. At that point, you will be sent an invoice which reflects the amount of time spent in the studio along with whatever you ordered. Once the payment has been processed, the images you selected will be edited and you will be contacted via email once they are ready (usually about a week).
